Part 2: “A caged wolf”

    You opened your eyes as you felt a hand carefully wipe away a tear and realized it was Dante; he must’ve heard you scream as he asked, “You lost someone to a demon, did you?”

            “Eh?”

                “I lost my mother to a demon when I was seven, my dad separated me from my twin brother and since then, I’ve been here”, he explained; hearing that, you felt bad for him as you nodded your head and said, “Y-yeah, my mom and I were attacked when I was little; my mom shot at it, but it wounded her and it never touched me, and not long after it fled, the car flipped ‘cause my mom lost control. I got lucky as I did nothing but watch her die in front of me” You placed a hand on your mother’s necklace and continued, “She gave me this necklace shortly before she died, and she told me that someday I would be free from a cage; I never understood what she meant by it but she must’ve thought that I was a caged wolf”

            You let out a soft laughter thinking what you said was stupid as you heard Dante say, “She must’ve known that you might get lost in life and that you gather the strength to defeat your darkness” You looked at Dante as you heard your cell phone ring and you answer it.

            “Hello?”

                “Do you mind explaining where the hell you are?!”

            This wasn’t good, Giles was looking for you and you knew what that meant: he was wanting money. Giles was a worker at the café you worked at and he was the head cook; he and the boss are good friends and everyone who was an employee knew his reputation with women. You let out a wince as you heard him yell through the phone it was so loud Dante could hear it and it was taking everything he had just to keep from yelling back at him. Once Giles was done with his “lecture”, he hung up and you let out a cry as you let yourself hug Dante; he was at first taken aback but he carefully placed his arms around you as you both hear the phone give off a chime signaling it was your older sister, Maria. You answered by placing it on loud speaker and Date kept silent, “Hello?”

            “Hey there, little sis! Listen I was wondering if you could help out at the farm. We’ve got some strong storms and you know how my husband is when it comes to storms”

            You always admired Maria, she was smarter then you, stronger then you, and has a four year old girl named Aimee and you loved her antics as you say, “Yeah sure, sis, I’ll bring someone over to help your husband board up the farm” Dante had already gotten up and put on his jacket and he knew you were talking about him as your sister said happily, “Alright then. I’ll tell him you’re on your way. See you soon” You hung up and you had completely forgotten you were in a dress when Dante said, “You might want to change first before we go somewhere”

    Not long after you made it home, thankfully, Giles wasn’t home and you had the day off, you changed in your room that reeked of alcohol; Giles wanted you to sleep in the same room with him but a few times you would sleep on the couch only to wake up to Giles yelling at you and beating you. You looked at yourself in the mirror and scanned your outfit: you wore a black short sleeve with blue jeans and your dark red shoes. Dante looked at you when you opened the door and noticed how your outfit showed off a bit of your curves(at least you think so), and in a flash, you and Dante’s lips were mere inches from a near kiss as you were stood against a wall and thought, ‘He’s so fast. I didn’t even see him get up! What is he?’ Your (e/c) eyes never left Dante’s ice blue-grey eyes as he began to kiss with a lot of passion; you at first were shocked by this move but you accepted it as you began to kiss him back the same way, but his passion was very hard to give back to. You felt his hands caressed your waist going down to your hips then you felt him pick you up as you instinctively wrapped yourself around his hips; you stopped and began to softly pant as he did the same but had a confused look on his face, then realizing it was too fast he looked away from you and said, “I’m sorry, it was too fast wasn’t it? If it was, I guess I should’ve given a warning or something” You let out a small laugh and said, “Uh, yeah it was a little too fast but it was alright” Soon, you hear the sounds of tires screeching and that let know who it was and fast; Dante let you go and said in an aggressive tone, “Get behind me-”  “No”, you say to him, “I need to be strong. I’m no longer going to let anyone save me from Giles but myself” ‘I have to stand up to him. I don’t care if I lose my job, he’s not gonna push me down anymore’ You see the door open there stood Giles with the three men who jumped you last night; Giles looked straight at Dante and growled, “So this is what you’re doing and why you never came home from your little friends’ get together for your stupid birthday? You slept with another man?”

    You narrowed your eyes defending Dante as you yell, “I never was with you, Giles! You made me try to sleep with you, beat me, and now you’re accusing me of something I didn’t do when he saved me from almost being raped and maybe worse off, DEAD!” Dante looked at you with shock at first then gave you a soft smile seeing you were standing up for yourself, but Giles was taken aback by your sudden shot of bravery as one of the three men began to walk towards you but you shot a death gaze with your (e/c) eyes making him stop dead in his tracks. Giles looked at you and said, “Grab your things, (name), I want you out of this house and you will never work at the café ever again” “I always wanted out of this hell-hole for a long time, Giles”, you say but you were cut off when the glass broke and a demon growled and roared as loud as it could as Giles tried to kill it with a knife. Dante grabbed his guns, Ebony and Ivory and quickly shot at it to get its attention as he reached for his sword, Rebellion. You stood behind Dante in fright as the demon spotted you and in an instant you remember that it was the demon that killed your mother; you realize the demon was behind you when Dante shouts your name as he got in between you and the demon and you fell to your knees as you turned to see the demon and Dante begin to fight.

    Giles and his men were already dead and you noticed that Ebony was on the floor and as you grabbed it Dante shouted, “Shoot at its head! It’ll kill it” You obeyed without hesitation and the demon was killed as Dante sliced it in half just to be on the safe side; it was the first time in your life you had killed something as you saw Dante carefully take Ebony from your hands and place it back to his side, then he hugged you as you let out a cry and sobbed into his chest. Dante automatically knew that it was the demon who killed your mother as he calmly shushed you saying that everything was alright. “C’mon”, he says, “we better get your things and then we’ll head off to your sister’s”
